The Unity Party of West Virginia (UPWV) stands united to protect and preserve our state, our freedoms, and our future. We believe in a government that is accountable, transparent, and responsive to the people of West Virginia. Our mission is to unite West Virginians across political divides to create practical, commonsense solutions that benefit all citizens, foster economic growth, and protect our state’s natural beauty.Core Principles
We adopt the national Unity Party of America’s principles with a commitment to local application in the Mountain State:Balanced Budget – West Virginia must maintain fiscal discipline. We support a balanced budget amendment to the state constitution to ensure taxpayer dollars are used responsibly.Protecting the 2nd Amendment – We affirm the right of law-abiding West Virginians to keep and bear arms, consistent with responsible firearm ownership.Defending the 4th Amendment – We oppose unlawful searches and seizures and support strong privacy protections for West Virginians against government overreach.Tax Reform for Growth – We support simplifying the state tax code, reducing unnecessary burdens, and exploring fairer revenue sources that encourage economic development without punishing working families.Healthcare Freedom – We support full state-level tax deductions for health care expenses and encourage competitive, affordable healthcare solutions in the private sector.Social Security & Retirement Security – While a federal issue, we will advocate nationally for systems that guarantee benefits for seniors, and at the state level, support programs that help West Virginians plan for retirement.Supporting Veterans & Military Families – We will ensure that West Virginia veterans have easy, no-barrier access to health care, education, and housing benefits.Fair Trade & Jobs – We support trade policies that protect West Virginia workers, encourage domestic production, and hold foreign competitors to fair labor and environmental standards.Term Limits – We advocate term limits for state legislators and statewide elected officials to promote fresh ideas and accountability.Election Security & Fairness – We support verifiable paper ballot systems, secure voting technology, and an end to gerrymandering by implementing nonpartisan districting commissions.Campaign Finance Reform – We will push for transparency in political contributions and apply the same limits to corporations and PACs as individuals.Education Excellence –Equal access to high-quality education for all West Virginians.Transparency between educators and parents.Support for alternative education and homeschooling resources.Expansion of trade, vocational, and higher education opportunities without creating lifelong debt.Innovation & Infrastructure – We will create a West Virginia Restoration Task Force to modernize roads, bridges, broadband internet, and energy infrastructure while creating good-paying jobs.Energy Independence – We support both traditional energy industries like coal and natural gas and the expansion of renewable energy sources, ensuring West Virginia remains an energy leader while preparing for the future.Arts, Humanities, & Cultural Preservation – We support programs that celebrate West Virginia’s heritage, traditions, and creative communities.Community Empowerment – We will work to uplift underprivileged and underrepresented communities through economic opportunities, education, and infrastructure investment.Environmental Stewardship – Protecting West Virginia’s mountains, rivers, and forests while promoting responsible use of natural resources.Government Transparency – All state-level Unity Party meetings will be open to the public, announced in advance, and accessible online when possible.Electoral Reform – We support exploring voting systems such as Approval Voting, STAR Voting, or proportional representation to give West Virginians more voice in elections.Unity Pledge – All UPWV candidates pledge to speak truthfully, avoid personal attacks, and focus on solutions rather than division.Our Mission for West Virginia
